Notice of Apology
Women’s Media Watch publicly
apologises to Advertising & Marketing (Ja.) Limited and J. Wray &
Nephew for the misleading and inaccurate statements ascribed as coming from the
advertisers and manufacturers, in the article at page 3 of its Newsletter for
January – June 2010 in relation to the advertisement of the drink ‘Jagra’ in
Jamaica.Women’s Media Watch
acknowledges that Advertising & Marketing (Ja.) Limited and J. Wray &
Nephew did not use profanity or other socially unacceptable terminology or
verbiage in their advertisements and formally apologies for any embarrassment
or damage sustained as a result of its publication.
To celebrate the 21st Anniversary of Women's Media Watch-Jamaica there
has been a year of exciting activities which have kept the organization
in the news. WMW and CPTC joined forces to mount a forum on Youth, Popular Media and Violence against Women which was broadcast on television.
Promoting Human RightsWMW's latest newsmagazine explores some legal and social perspectives on commercial sex work, including pornography. Latest "Looking Out For You"
A National Consultation, 'Sexual Harassment (W)Rap Up', was hosted jointly by Women's Media Watch
and the Bureau of Women's Affairs. Participants came all the way from
Westmoreland at one end of the island, to St.Thomas in the east, to
share in the findings of the participatory research and training
programme around sexual harassment carried out by WMW and the
BWA. Persons from every sector in Jamaica
were there - Hairdressers and Cosmetologists, Artistes, Farmers, Fire
Fighters and Teachers, Personnel Managers, Youth Leaders, Lawyers and
Business women. Ministers of Government in attendance made the
commitment to ensure that legislation around Sexual Harassment would be
implemented in the very near future. |
